Ultimate Spider-Man
Rating: T (Teen) Formats: PS2, Xbox, Gamecube Street Date: 9/27/05
The storyline for Ultimate Spider-man takes place after episode 39 of the comic book and traces the origins of Venom and his connection to Spider-Man. It also throws in a myriad of other Marvel villains and heroes, plot twists and surprises, giving this game the largest Marvel character line-up of any Spider-Man game to date.
This game is true to the comic’s 15 year old Peter Parker. Instead of brawling it out toe-to-toe with bad guys, Spider-man is frenetic, incredibly agile, and is constantly in motion during combat. And of course you can play Venom who simply tries to destroy everything in his path.
The freedom of swinging through New York as Spider-Man is one of the best elements of any Spider-Man game. The game is again set in a free-roaming recreation of New York City the actual locales include massive parts of New York City like Manhattan, Queens, and the more suburban areas of NYC. As well as famous Marvel landmarks like the Baxter Building and Empire State University.
One of the impressive features of the game is the depth with which you can explore the characters. Subsets of that include the great banter that plays during missions, the style of combat for each character the plot, the use of motion graphics panels in IGC’s and the overall variety of encounters. |
